What This Site Is…
A place for a carnivore and vegetarian to experiment with more vegan meals and share our results. Because making any kind of change like this is more sustainable when doing it with a friend (or community), we invite you to play along if you’re so inclined.
What This Site Isn’t…
A place for any kind of food evangelicalism (other than that you should eat food, stuff you like, as much as you want). We’re not here to dictate what you eat, judge what you eat, or care about what your reasons are for what you eat.
We don’t care that you think everyone should eat a vegan diet.
We don’t care if you think no one should eat a vegan diet.
We Like Science
We like vaccines and GMOs and don’t give a fuck about organic. (Also, we say fuck a lot.)
We don’t believe an all-raw organic GMO-free gluten-free vegan diet is going to cure serious chronic illnesses and find it dangerous when people push those ideas (even though, in some circumstances, eliminating various foods from your diet can sometimes help with various health concerns). We believe in working with your doctor and taking your prescribed medications. We like double-blind studies and peer-reviewed papers.
We believe the liver and kidneys do a better job of filtering toxins than a smoothie will (as much as we like smoothies).
We Don’t Hate Farm(er)s
While any industry has room for improvement and there are legit criticisms around various practices (whether farming with animals or plants), this is no place for propaganda. Some farmers are great with their animals! Some are not! We’re sympathetic to the compassionate ideals of abolitionists, but it’s not practical to believe everyone will choose to abstain from animal products. Animals are better served by everyone working together for their welfare from all sides.
We also like wool! Have you ever seen a sheep who hasn’t been sheared? It fucking sucks for them!
We Have No Patience for Drama Around Food
Fat-shamers can gtfo: everything you know about obesity is wrong. Weight is not equivalent to health and we support HAES. If you have reasons for wanting to diet, that’s between you and your body; keep in mind that comments denigrating yourself for your weight or elevating folks for losing weight make everyone feel like shit so maybe fucking stop.
We all need food to survive, and we’re also going to die, so no amount of trying to eat “pure” is going to make you immortal.
Also, no food is inherently good or bad. It’s just food. So eat a fucking cookie if you want one–it doesn’t make you “bad” (it’s not genocide, it’s a fucking dessert).
